I read on the search for new plug-in hybrids. Why not use nuclear waste to create batteries?
I know they seeking to use lithium-ion batteries to increase efficiency in hybrid cars, but the energy you use to plug it into your house comes from the same basic non-renewable sources such as coal and oil. Of course there are some sources wind, solar and water and nuclear power plants, yes, but the vast majority of electricity still comes from burning fossil fuels. So are we really helping the environment by plugging? There are a byproduct of nuclear power plants that is used or spent fuel rods. Radioactive material that is contaminated are not strong enough to generate the electricity needed to continue using the plant. However, it is still highly contaminated. No, generators SNAP (sometimes mistakenly called nuclear batteries) used on gear space require pure plutonium work. And they are not much power either. They are only used on spacecraft that will Saturn or Pluto, since sunlight is too low there for solar panels to be practical, and because the cost is not a problem.
